Thirteenth Night  by Alan Gordon
If one supposed for a moment that the events chronicled in Shakespeare's Twelfth Night were based on a real incident, one might then be led to ask "What happened to these people later?"  the notion may sound far-fetched, but it is the basis for a wonderful mystery set in the duchy of Orsino on the Adriatic coast of Italy in the year 1200.  Feste is a fool with a desire to save at least a part of the world and when he learns of the mysterious death of the Duke, he goes to investigate.  There is witty wordplay, a suspenseful plot, interesting characters and a surprising ending.
