| A great deal of
medieval Russian literature survives, but it is very hard to find
information about that place and time in English. This anthology
has over 60 selections from a wide range of literary types: chronicles
of the Kievan period, saints' lives, military tales, travelers'
accounts, and poetry. Each selection has a short introduction
giving background information. There is a glossary of Russian
terms and a short historical chronology to help one keep the dates straight.
The translations are straight-forward and easy to read.
