The Medieval Archer

by Jim Bradbury

This is a classic on the subject, being first published in 1986, and having been reprinted several times since then.  The author starts with a chapter on attitudes towards archers
in the middle ages and then proceeds chronologically from a few Anglo-Saxon references on through the centuries.  There is considerable discussion to the use of archers in various important battles, with diagrams and maps to make their disposition more clear. There are many B&W reproductions from period sources showing archers and their equipment.  He includes a chapter on Robin Hood and a short chapter on archers in society.   The focus is almost entirely on archers in England and France.
