How Would You Survive the Middle Ages?

by Fiona Macdonald

This is considered to be a children's book but it is so dense with information many adults could find it interesting, especially if they are just beginning their interest in the medieval period.  It is only 48 pages, including the index, but the publishers literally have not wasted an inch.  The area that usually would be margins is full of little drawings, captioned with factoids, that provides concrete illustrations of the points made in the main text.  For example, surrounding the pages on food, to the left is a recipe with 4 drawings showing food in a noble household and in the left margin, the same setup appears showing peasant food.  Most of the book concerns everyday life and the layout and drawings should keep this interesting for even the shortest attention span.
