Decorative Ironwork of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance  by Jakob Heinrich von Hefner-Alteneck

This is a republication of the plates from a French  work, Serrurerie, ou les Ouvrages en Fre Forge du Moyen-Age et de la Renaissance (Paris, 1870).  Most of the items  are from 1400 to 1600, but a few go back to 1160.  Sometimes the captions tell where the piece is from, but there is always a tentative dating.  Typically Victorian, all the attention is paid to the ornate and the unusual.  Although Victorian re-drawings can be a nuisance, this is a nice collection of pieces that may or may not still exist portrayed in detail at an inexpensive price.  There is no text.
