Celtic Designs from the British Museum

by Ian Stead & Karen Hughes

While most pattern books of Celtic art concentrate on the familiar "knotwork" and other motifs used in Ireland from the 6th century CE onwards, this book begins a thousand years earlier with patterns created by Celtic tribes living in mainland Europe.  (Warning - This book is not Medieval!)  The distinctive patterns are taken from artifacts such as metalwork, pottery, sword scabbards, jewelry and chariot fittings and are presented as very 300 intricately done line drawings.  There is a useful introduction and notes on each pattern.
