There are few sources as rewarding in information about the 11th century as the Bayeux Tapestry. Besides its documentation of needlework skills, it shows us pictures of clothes, hairstyles, cooking methods and armour. This particular book is an excellent resource for anyone who wants to study any of its aspects. The book begins with a few very large photos of a couple selected areas of the tapestry, enabling on e to get a really good look at the embroidery. |

that are a number of short chapters of text, each tackling different
aspects of the tapestry, including the observations of everyday life,
the possible identity of the designer, the embroidery techniques and the
relationship to Viking art. This section has a number of B&W
illustrations of other artwork of the time used for comparison.
The remaining 70 pages are color reproductions of the entire
tapestry. On each page, the action is explained and any
inscriptions translated. The whole book is usefully and
intelligently done.
