| A Handbook of Anglo-Saxon Food: Processing and Consumption by Ann Hagen |
![]() |
No one has yet found a cookbook from the time period covered in this book (400 - 1100), but Ann Hagen has done tremendous research to inform us of everything but the actual recipes. She covers Anglo-Saxon Britain and the Celtic west, with occasional references to continental information. Her primary source material comes from both literary and archeological sources. Although the table of contents neatly divides the book into "processing" and "consumption", useful tidbits of information |
| are
found everywhere in the book, from women's role as dairy workers to the
entertainment at feasts.
